People
might think that to become a Freemason is quite difficult. It's
actually straightforward.
The simplest answer to the above question is ask!
However before asking it is necessary to know the qualifications
required for membership which are only a few but which we take very
seriously.
Firstly and most importantly you must believe in a Supreme Being,
most commonly refered to as God, however as freemasonry is open
to all faiths you may equally recognise him as Allah, or the name
by which your creed gives to the Supreme Being
Secondly, You must be male and aged 21 and over.
Thirdly, as the reputation of The Lodge and Freemasonry in general
depends on the conduct of its members you must be a respectable
law abiding citizen of good character
These being the criteria the one last thing you should know before
joining is what freemasonry is not;
There are no financial benefits to be gained from membership
of the lodge, indeed you would be expected to contribute to the
various charitable works such as your circumstances in life permit.
It is not a secret mutual help society where members are favoured
to the exclusion of others.
Suggested Steps
If
after reading the various documents
on this site you are still interested in becoming a Freemason, we
advise that you first talk to a family member, friend or colleague
whom you already know to be a member. They will be able to explain
to you what they can about the fraternity and help you find a suitable
Lodge.
If you don't know anyone at all who is a member, then get in touch
with a Masonic Office in your area. Write to that office, telling
them a little bit about yourself and your reasons for wishing to
join.
Arrangements will be made to meet you socially to find out more
about you, and to give you a chance to find out more about us.
You would then in due course be invited to meet a committee of
members from a Lodge you might be joining, prior to being balloted
for membership of that Lodge.
All being well, a date would then be fixed for your admission.
It's as simple as that , no big secret!
